What Is COVID-19: Causes, Symptoms And Prevention

While I write this, more than half a million Americans and almost two million around the world have been infected with the novel coronavirus. While several people have recovered, there have also been thousands of deaths as a result of the virus. In addition to that, with economic activities halted in most countries in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus, the world economy is undergoing significant suffering.

So, what exactly is this disease that has brought the whole world to a standstill?

Coronavirus disease, which is also known as COVID-19, is an infectious respiratory illness that is caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. The virus was first identified during an investigation of an outbreak that happened in the Wuhan in Hubei province in China. Even though the virus came from an animal source, it can rapidly spread from person to person, mainly through respiratory droplets that are released when a sick person coughs or sneezes. Most people who are infected with the virus experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without requiring any special medical treatment. However, people who have underlying health conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer are more likely to suffer from a serious illness.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Some of the most common symptoms of the disease are:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath

In addition to them, there are also other symptoms, which include:

  • Sore Throat
  • Body aches
  • Runny nose, diarrhea, and nausea (not common)

Because the disease can rapidly spread from person to person, if you happen to experience any of these symptoms, it is advised that you immediately self-isolate because people who are in close contact with you are at a higher risk of infection, such as your family members or friends. Next, you must contact your medical provider for further assistance. Additionally, you must also:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue while sneezing or coughing, and then throw away the tissue in a dustbin
  • Disinfect all those objects and surfaces that you touch frequently, such as your phone or computer

How can you protect yourself from COVID-19?

There are some everyday preventive actions that you can take to protect yourself from the virus. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol content)
  • Maintain social distancing. Stay at least 1 meter away from people who may be sick
  • Avoid touching your face, especially your mouth, eyes, and nose, with unwashed hands
  • Avoid unnecessary travel and crowded places

There isn’t any vaccine for the treatment of COVID-19 yet, so the best way to keep yourself safe is to follow these preventive measures. And if you are sick, self-isolate and seek medical help immediately.By chanting prayers, mediation will be avoided to get the COVID-19 and also if people are affected by COVID-19 can be healed by prayers.
Stay safe!
